Foods That Cause Indigestion

Indigestion is basically caused due to bad food habits and due to consumption of unhealthy food.

Foods that cause Indigestion are as follows:

Fries or oily food:

Generally heavy intake of oily foods or deep fried foods affects the digestive organs of the body. Large intake of such kinds of fatty foods results in slow digestion rate of the body. The stomach breaks down the fats into smaller pieces and then they are sent to the small intestine for further break down of fats.

When a person consumes a large amount of fats at one time our stomach finds it difficult to break down these fats into smaller pieces and it remains in the stomach for some time, thus causing stomach ache and digestion problems. Fatty foods or greasy foods include deep fried fish or chicken, French fries, popcorns and hamburgers.

Spicy food:

Consumption of spicy foods generally causes a burning sensation in the stomach and in the throat. Spicy foods irritate the lining of the esophagus thus causing heartburn. Excess use of chilly and pepper makes food spicy.

Hot drinks that contain caffeine:

Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, cold coffee often contain excess amount of caffeine in them which causes stomach upset. Caffeine increases the acid level in the stomach. If you do not eat anything with drinks containing caffeine the chances of you to suffer from indigestion increases. In such a situation you generally suffer from nausea.

Dairy products:

Excess intake of dairy products is again harmful to your stomach. Milk products contain lactose and sucrose; however, consuming high amounts of these products is injurious to health. Eating cheese which is made from low quality ingredients contain certain antibiotics that blocks the digestive tract.

Chocolates:

Chocolates contain a little amount of caffeine which is again injurious to health.

Tomato products:

Tomato products like tomato sauce, tomato juice might trouble your stomach and you. It increases the acid in the stomach thus causing heartburn.

Processed foods:

Processed foods like bread and cheese should be avoided if one is having it to a great extent. These foods lack in fiber. They contain artificial coloring and preservatives that affects our stomach. Excess intake of this makes your stomach feel heavy thus causing irregular bowel syndromes. It can also produce gas in your stomach.

Artificial sweetener:

The artificial sweetener secreted from the digestive organs is sorbital. Sometimes when sorbital goes to the large intestine it causes diarrhea and bloating.

Consumption of alcohol:

Alcohol consumption during meals affects your stomach and your intestine. It is poisonous to the stomach lining and affects the metabolic rate of the body.

Sweet or salty foods:

Highly sweet or salty foods affect the process of digestion in our body. Besides it also disturbs the sugar level of our body thus causing further problem to our body. In such circumstances people are more likely to suffer from GERD.

Spoiled food:

Foods stored for a longer period of time than expected gets spoiled and decayed. When a person eats such a bacteria affected food their stomach may get infected further causing indigestion problems. This can also be called as food poisoning.

Soy Products:

In some of the human beings their digestive system does not accept soy products. Soy products are products made from soya beans. Soy products contain oligosaccharides. These substances are not easily broken by the body and they remain in the stomach thus causing bacterial infection which causes bloating. Soy products also contain trypsin which hinders the digestion of proteins. But this differs from person to person according to their body’s capacity.

Nuts:

Nuts contain an ingredient called tannin. Since they have very high amount of fiber and fat content it sometimes does not support your digestive system. A lot of nuts at one time moves through the digestive tract very slowly thus interrupting the digestive process.

Eating overcooked food:

Overcooked food is injurious to health. When any kind of food is overcooked it loses most of it’s vitamins. It also loses it’s taste. Eating such overcooked food troubles your stomach.

Eating unwashed fruits and vegetables:

Vegetables and fruits come to the market from fields. When they are grown in the fields, pesticides and insecticides are sprayed on them to protect them from pests and various insects. If we eat these fruits or vegetables without washing them there are chances that the insecticides and pesticides might enter your stomach, thus causing stomach infection.

So the best way is to wash them and then eat. Vegetables should be washed before they are cut. When we wash vegetables after cutting them, then all the vitamins and minerals present in them get washed away along with water.

Eating outside food:

Eating food from the road side vendors on a daily basis again causes indigestion. Roadside food is not hygienic. They are left open along the road thus attracting various flies and dust. Apart from this the ingredients used to prepare such food is not of a good quality. Most importantly the water used for preparing such foods is contaminated which for sure causes indigestion.

Carbonated beverages:

Carbonated beverages causes reflux action in your body. Consumption of carbonated beverages pushes the stomach acids back to the sphincter and the esophagus. It also causes burping.

These are the different foods that cause indigestion. Proper care should be taken while eating any food apart from keeping the quantity of it in mind. Avoiding indigestion is in your hands.
