Whiplash or neck injury is a very painful injury. It is dangerous because if it is not treated or attended to as soon as possible it could turn into whiplash symptoms long term. The best way to counteract this long term injury is by knowing the whiplash symptoms and treatment. This will allow you to know what to do during and after a car accident, strong collision during a sports game or anytime an accident suddenly occurs.
Here are some whiplash symptoms that you need to know about:
Pain in the lower back part of your body, pain in the shoulders and shoulder blades, neck pain, stiffness of the neck, dizziness, headaches, ringing of the ears, blurry vision, difficulty in concentrating, irritability, disturbance in sleep, fatigue, tiredness and neck swelling
Symptoms may differ upon the severity of the injury in your neck. If you just came from a car accident, there are times that you would not feel these symptoms but they could only be happening because of shock from the accident. Whiplash symptoms and treatment will really differ depending on the severity and even the immediate treatment done after an accident.
In some cases, some symptoms won’t appear and some symptoms will only be felt by the patient or victim after a few hours or so. There are also some cases wherein the symptoms won’t appear at all and this is the importance of having a check-up after coming from a car accident.
As the present time, there is no specified treatment that could be done for whiplash patients. However, there are some medications and therapy that can prevent the injury from becoming worse or simply suppress the pain of the injury.
Physical Therapy and Medication – So far, this is one of the best treatments available that a patient can do. Whiplash symptoms and treatment for a patient is conducted by a medical doctor wherein the doctor will only be able to prescribe some medication that will suppress the pain.
Physical therapy will be the one that will try to fix the injury but it will not be a guaranteed success on the part of the patient. The doctor will immediately tell the patient that the PT or physical therapy will not be an assurance of 100 per cent recovery. However, there are cases of car accident whiplash symptoms that have been cured by physical therapy alone.
Exercise and Avoiding Stressful Activities – When you talk about exercise as treatment, there are exercises that are not stressful especially for the neck area. You will have to exercise your neck but you will have to make sure that you won’t go beyond the capability of your neck. Whiplash symptoms and treatment will always be about minimizing the movement of your neck.
There are even some patients that are suggested to wear a collar or back brace just to minimize the neck or head movements. This basically minimizes the neck and heads movement but there is still room for the neck and head to have its regular and normal movement.
Medical doctors and other people in the medical field are still trying to find a specific treatment for whiplash or neck injury. As of now, these treatments and medication are the best and most effective that patients can use to suppress the pain of the injury and try to heal the injury.
